The appellant, Paul Detter, claimed workmen's compensation for injuries allegedly sustained while an employee of the Gisholt
Corporation of Madison, Wisconsin. The examiner for the industrial commission 1 found that Detter sustained an injury while
on the job and that the injury was compensable. The defendant and respondent herein, Gisholt Corporation, filed a petition
for review. On such review, the commission set aside the findings of its examiner and found that the applicant had suffered
a "spontaneous herniation" of an intervertebral disc, not caused by his work, and that he had not sustained an accidental
injury arising out of his employment. This determination was appealed to the circuit court for Dane county, and upon affirmance
of the order of the commission denying compensation, Detter has taken an appeal to this court. Further facts will be found in the opinion.
